Anxiety Resurfaces During the Unknown

It’s been six years since I walked through the nightmare of the unknown leading to great loss.  My perfect pregnancy with identical twins came to a screeching halt when I found out without surgery my boys survival was a mere 5%.  After having that surgery their survival rates went to just 50%. With 20 long weeks left to go my Doctor quoted Dr. Seuss and The Places You’ll Go. The hero is on an adventure when he hits a slump and ends up in the worst place of all….. The Waiting Place. This book I had read, and  received, and given for graduations soon took on grave meaning. Because here I was stuck in The Waiting Place.

This period of time was when I got aquatinted with anxiety.  It was brutal. I prayed that time would just fast forward. That I’d know the outcome and not be stuck. Time did pass slowly and I got my answer. One of my boys got wings and one I get to hold in my arms every day. The funny thing is I negotiated away those days, but now I miss them.  I miss when I felt the kicking and squiggling of two boys in my tummy.  I am not sure I could survive a time like that again but strangely I cherish it.

So, here we are today, and I’ve worked hard to be past those moments of anxiety. It’s been years since I felt it.  Over the past week it’s been creeping back.  This time we all are together in The Waiting Place.  How long will it last? How severe is this? When or will things be normal again?

I don’t have any answers but I can share some tips to get through anxiety that work for me.

  1. Write. Write your thoughts. Write a blog. Share it. I’ll read it!

  2. Mantras. For me the most important. Look some up, or create your own. Say it out loud, yell it, whisper it, write it. For me in this moment mine is “thank you universe for today, for my boys, and for what’s to come”

  3. Write and say what you’re grateful for. Gratitude interrupts anxiety and negativity.

  4. Get some exercise. Walk, run, stretch

  5. Breathe.

  6. Pick a word that makes you happy or inspires you to feel good. I’ve chosen words such as joy, service, abundance, choose joy

  7. Get dressed.  Out of those PJs in something that makes you feel confident or attractive.

  8. Pick a word that makes you happy or inspires you to feel good. I’ve chosen words such as joy, service, abundance, choose joy.

  9. Call a friend.
